The Good Bread Bakery is a hole-in-the-wall business that attracts the residents of Northern Israel every single day. The bakery sells a variety of products, ranging from croissants and sandwiches to focaccia bread and delicious lattes. Despite all of their incredible food products that they sell, they are best known for their sourdough bread, which is crunchy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Their breads sell out within minutes because it is the perfect ingredient for at-home breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.
“There was an incredible atmosphere that I instantly recognized as I walked in,” Benjamin Danziger, freshman at Harrison High School, explained. Benjamin visited the bakery in August of 2025 and many other times before. “Everything from the colorful tiles, display of pastries, the view of the bakers making bread, and the baker’s dog waiting by the door all create a special space that people take comfort in. It’s clear why the bakery is so popular.”
To Benjamin’s point, the atmosphere of the Good Bread Bakery is incredible. The vintage decorations, art pieces, shelves full of bread baskets, and boxes that read “Enjoy life, it’s delicious” all contribute to the positive aura that attracts so many people on a daily basis. In addition to the decorative inside of the bakery, the outside seating area is another stunning aspect of the Good Bread Bakery. The seating area is just a few steps away from the front door of the bakery and features a few tables throughout the area. The seating area is covered in green plants, giving it color and a sense of liveliness. Adorable stray cats roam the seating area, often approaching customers to be pet.
Throughout Middle Eastern history, there have been numerous conflicts between Israel and its neighboring Arab nations. But in Ma’alot-Tarshiha, the two cultures do not just coexist, but they thrive.
Ma’alot was founded as a primarily Jewish town, and Tarshiha was founded as an Arab village in the early years of Israel’s establishment. In 1963, the two individual towns merged to form a city where people of all cultures can live side by side, sharing schools, public spaces, and businesses, much like the Good Bread Bakery.
To residents of Ma’alot-Tarshiha, the Good Bread Bakery is a symbol of peace. In the last two years, there has been an increase in tension and conflict between Arab nations and Israel, specifically regarding the war between Israel and Hamas, which eventually resulted in additional conflicts with Hezbollah in Iran and the Houthis in Yemen. Despite these intense, destructive, and devastating conflicts, the Good Bread Bakery remained a hub for people of all backgrounds to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a pastry.
